I originally started playing this work from a collection edited by Oscar Beringer, which predated the Deutsch catalogue, so I had to do some hunting to find out what it actually was. Turns out it’s from a collection of 12 German Dances (D. 420), and as this work was presented, it actually took dance no. 2 as a trio to dance no. 1 (coincidentally, no. 2 was in the dominant of no. 1, so it made sense!)
Anyway, this shows up a lot of my deficiencies as a pianist, I think; I still find it a trial to get these sort of works to come out as I want them to. Still a pleasant and character-filled work to record.
