Marjan Kiepura performs another youthful mazurka composed in 1829 while Chopin was still in Poland. The middle section is reminiscent of a Polish bagpipe called a Duda which provided a drone bass. The melody line is that middle section represents a shepherd’s pipe. Chopin was influenced by visits to the Polish countryside and adopted certain folkloric gestures to his music.
