Chopin (1810-1849) composed this turbulent piece from 1831-1832. The slower section in the middle uses an old Polish Christmas song, “Lulajże Jezuniu.” It is one of the more difficult pieces that Chopin wrote.
Cyprien Katsaris (b. 1951) recorded much of Chopin’s music between the labels Sony and Teldec. This recording is from a Teldec album. One of the things I like most about Katsaris is how he sometimes takes a different approach on repeated passages.
