Muzio Clementi wrote around 1780 Piano Sonatas that would change the musical world completely. This C Major sonata opus 2/1 was among his ‘arsenal’ when Clementi met Mozart at Christmas Eve 1781, and in Wolfgang”s few lines he spent on the evening writing to his father, it is not hard to read he was rather impressed with the technical skills he witnessed from his keyboard colleague.
I have recorded this piece twice now, one time on clavichord, one time a few weeks ago on this same Frenzel Pianoforte. Not knowing there was a tempo indication by our friend Ignaz Moscheles (who knew Clementi as few other musicians did), gave his MM for this work.
