Folk music and dances were a significant inspiration for Schubert, and he wrote over 400 pieces in dance form for the piano. This minuet dates from his early years. Much use is made of the figure of a dotted quaver and semiquaver folllowed by a pair of slurred notes, the first of which is slightly accented (wrist down) and the second lightened (wrist up).
I like the range of dynamics and tempos in this piece especially in the trio section that begins in bar 16. A lively dancing number that should have been a pop hit of its day. Minuets are always full of dance like steps and tripping, I love this little two and a half minutes of joy.
