This piece is from Moszkowski’s set of 15 Études de Virtuosité subtitled “Per Aspera”. It is rather neglected in favour of its flashier companion pieces. Stylistically it looks back to Chopin and even Cramer. It is beautifully written, with an interlude of octave scales strategically placed where the player’s wrists can start to tire from the chordal repetitions that dominate the piece.
