Frederic Chopin: Barcarolle Op. 60 – Callum Mclachlan

Chopin composed the Barcarolle in the twilight of his life, a piece at once serene, joyous and uplifting and yet with an undercurrent of yearning and longing.Typical of late Chopin, there is far more polyphony than in his earlier works and as a result creates a more complex texture and a further challenge for the pianist to control and shape the differing voices. It is a work that has a vast scope of emotion and colour, and is a treasure in Chopin’s output and in the piano repertoire.
